THE FOUNDATION

Mission

The Judith Whitney Godwin Foundation for the Arts is dedicated to the legacy of the artist, Judith Godwin. It also strives to advance further understanding of the abstract expressionist era as the contributions of more women artists from this period are recognized. In working toward these goals, the foundation facilitates research and education by making its archives available to scholars and supports exhibitions at various art institutions with loans of artwork.

Established by Godwin in 2017, the foundation holds a large amount of primary source material received directly from the artist, including many of her paintings and works on paper. Godwin also bequeathed books, correspondence, and photographs, among other materials pertaining to her decades-long creative career.
